Job Summary:  This position will serve as a technical agronomist in the northern business unit (NBU). The person in this role will be responsible for generating data, establishing field trials, and serving as a critical liaison for technical information (products, programs, data content, etc.) This position will cover the Northern Business Unit with focus in ND, SD and MN.

Supervises:  n/a

Primary Responsibilities and Duties may include but are not limited to:

  1. Provides a high level of professional field level agronomic and sales support to NBU, targeted customer growers and their assigned associates.
  2. Become a regional product matter expert for most effectively incorporating Heliae products into grower programs and cropping systems of the NBU to produce the most beneficial soil and crop results possible.
  3. In coordination with regional sales manager(s), develop relationships of trust with key customers and agronomy personnel, farmer/managers, researchers, company managers and relevant independent consultants within the region and business unit while promoting the benefits of the company product portfolio.
  4. Practical understanding and experience with design, execution, monitoring, statistical analysis and summarization of crop field trials.
  5. Manage successful completion of multiple trials in coordination with Regional Sales Manager including (Varying cycles, crops, trial types and timelines) from inception to completion.
  6. Provide support to regional sales manager for training, preparation of presentation material, and personally presenting as needed.
  7. Visit test plots on a monthly basis or as assigned to document progress and key findings summaries and be prepared to present relevant findings to other cross-functional teams as assigned.
  8. Serve as technical product support across the product portfolio for NBU.
  9. Travel to prioritized trade shows and events to identify opportunities for sales and new target customers.
  10. Keep abreast of market, trade and competitor activity in the region to help form and revise regional strategy as required.
  11. Positively represent Heliae at company events, customer events and trade events.
  12. Regularly coordinate and prioritize activities with Senior Agronomy Manager


  • Bachelor’s Degree agricultural science or related field
  • 2– 5 years minimum experience in ag research and agronomy
  • Experience in customer relations
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Basic knowledge of soil health, crop fertility and pest management
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills, including presentation skills
  • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) license or Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg) license preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to work 40 or more hours per week remotely in the Northern Business Unit, which may include periodic travel to Canada.
  • Drive within the region to field trials, for sample collection and field assessments
  • The ability to travel overnight by car up to 40% of the time
  • The ability to operate typical office devices (computer, telephone, etc.)

The person in this position needs to have a solid foundation in the agronomic principles governing the production of a broad crop base including the commodity and forage crops, specialty annual crops, and permanent crops. Attention to detail and knowledge of crop requirements will be key for tracking the performance of field trials and for recognizing the opportunity to bring in select product from the company product portfolio. Analysis and interpretation of soil, tissue, and water reports is a must have skill. Careful record keeping, across a variety of media platforms (e.g., photos, spreadsheets, presentation software, etc.) and the ability to interpret field level variability maps (e.g., yield and soil maps) are also key skills. Finally, the ability to forge a trusting relationship between the science and sales staff is another core competency.
