You almost need to feel the stalks yourself, as I believe the pictures alone only tell half the story. Why is it important for growers to feed their native beneficial soil microbes?

Plain and simple, starving microbes can’t break down residue. Beyond that, they also can’t improve your soil structure, support crop health and improve yield potential. Feeding beneficial microbes is like adding an exceptional farm hand to your team that doesn’t take breaks once they’re fed.

Why is PhycoTerra a superior food source for beneficial microbes?

Beneficial soil microbes need a high-quality, balanced diet to thrive and multiply. PhycoTerra and PhycoTerra Organic are unique formulations with a carbon-to-nitrogen (C:N) ratio of 7:1, which makes it an excellent carbon source for microbes and promotes mineralization. Many biostimulants have a much higher C:N ratio, which can lead to immobilization of soil nutrients, making them unusable to the plant. Because PhycoTerra utilizes microalgae as the main ingredient in its formulation, it contains an ideal balance of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins which feed a more abundant and diverse range of bacteria and fungi and encourages a steady and prolonged activation of the soil microbiome after application.

How does PhycoTerra improve soil health?

Technically, PhycoTerra doesn’t improve soil health, it feeds the beneficial microbes in your soil so they can improve soil health.
Starving microbes go dormant as a survival strategy. Around 75% of soil microbes globally are dormant in growers’ fields today.
PhycoTerra feeds and activates these beneficial soil microbes, which are the foundation of soil health. When these native microbes are fed a “balanced diet” they do important jobs like improving soil structure and water productivity, optimizing nutrient mineralization and cycling and supporting plants through abiotic stress.

How do I store PhycoTerra?

PhycoTerra does not have any special storage requirements. All PhycoTerra branded products can be stored in the field during the season and can withstand both heat and cold without reducing efficacy. For multiple use, the container should always be sealed properly and stored in a dry, cool place.

Can I mix Phycoterra products with my current crop inputs?

Yes, PhycoTerra has an extremely high mixability and no known incompatibilities with any other inputs.

Is there a risk of nutrient tie up, like with other carbon products?

No. PhycoTerra® is designed to avoid the nutrient lock-up problem that can happen with other biostimulants. Many products on the market have a very high carbon-to-nitrogen (C:N) ratio, which starves microbes of nitrogen and leads them to pull nutrients out of the soil.
PhycoTerra has a balanced 7:1 C:N ratio, providing microbes with the right mix of carbon, nitrogen, and energy they need to stay active and keep nutrients moving. It’s a complete food source with carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids, so it feeds the entire microbial community. That means steady breakdown of residue without the nutrient tie-up.

Is PhycoTerra a living, biological product?

Does it work the same in high-residue crops (like corn) vs. lower-residue crops (like soy)?

While any farmer can use PhycoTerra Soil Amendment to support beneficial microbes in their farm soil and reduce residue, this product is intended to help farmers with crops that create heavy residue, like corn and wheat, reduce their overall residue come spring.
