Residue is a classic can’t-live-with-it, can’t-live-without-it scenario. Every grower wants sturdy crops and high yields during a growing season, but no one wants the residue after harvest.
Most farmers manage residue in one of two ways.
Tillage clears residue, but it doesn’t break it down. Adding PhycoTerra with tillage accelerates decomposition in the field over winter, so residue is minimized and actively breaking down to feed your spring crops, rather than large chunks of plant sitting in your soil.
Leaving residue can cause planting delays, poor germination or slow emergence. At worst it harbors pests and damages machinery. PhycoTerra enables microbes to break down residue, enabling you to avoid delays and other costly setbacks.
Field proven and backed by a lab, growers can see a return on investment of $36 to $46 per acre after using PhycoTerra Soil Amendment to feed beneficial microbes and speed up decomposition.
Whether your plan is full tillage, strip-till or no-till, PhycoTerra fits into your system and breaks down residue faster for earlier planting, better yields and healthier soil.
"In the images attached you will be able to tell the treated versus untreated. The untreated stalks have very little (if any) browning/blackening. You almost need to feel the stalks yourself, as I believe the pictures alone only tell half the story. The treated stalks are mushy, almost soft to the touch while the untreated stalks are still robust and do not show visual evidence of much breakdown activity.
When you split the stalks, the pith of the untreated is still very much intact while the treated is showing significant breakdown. Visually, [in the field] as you cross the line between treated and untreated it is hard to tell, but if you dig into the ground a tad then it becomes evident something is going on there."
75% of beneficial microbes in farm soil are dormant due to starvation, so they can’t decompose your crop residue. By feeding them a well-balanced food source, like our unique patented strain of microalgae used in PhycoTerra Soil Amendment, you can wake them up and put them to work breaking down residue.
A diverse, active and abundant soil microbiome breaks down residue faster with a 21% residue reduction come spring. When residue breaks down faster, you’re able to plant earlier.
It’s not bugs in a jug. It’s a stable, well-balanced meal that puts microbes to work.
Farmers are busy enough, so all of our products are designed with low rates (1-2 quarts per acre), exceptional mixability and without special equipment. They also won’t gum or clog your sprayer.
Compatibility and Timing: Works with burndown, post-harvest, pre-till either on its own or combined with a burn down.
There are no weather restrictions, so apply PhycoTerra Soil Amendment whenever is best for you.
Applied Across Crops: Supports residue management across corn, soy, cotton, wheat, canola and more.
Don’t gamble when it comes to next spring’s planting date. Get residue results backed by a lab, tested in a field and trusted by farmers like you.

Plain and simple, starving microbes can’t break down residue. Beyond that, they also can’t improve your soil structure, support crop health and improve yield potential. Feeding beneficial microbes is like adding an exceptional farm hand to your team that doesn’t take breaks once they’re fed.
Beneficial soil microbes need a high-quality, balanced diet to thrive and multiply. PhycoTerra and PhycoTerra Organic are unique formulations with a carbon-to-nitrogen (C:N) ratio of 7:1, which makes it an excellent carbon source for microbes and promotes mineralization. Many biostimulants have a much higher C:N ratio, which can lead to immobilization of soil nutrients, making them unusable to the plant. Because PhycoTerra utilizes microalgae as the main ingredient in its formulation, it contains an ideal balance of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins which feed a more abundant and diverse range of bacteria and fungi and encourages a steady and prolonged activation of the soil microbiome after application.
PhycoTerra does not have any special storage requirements. All PhycoTerra branded products can be stored in the field during the season and can withstand both heat and cold without reducing efficacy. For multiple use, the container should always be sealed properly and stored in a dry, cool place.
Yes, PhycoTerra has an extremely high mixability and no known incompatibilities with any other inputs.
While any farmer can use PhycoTerra Soil Amendment to support beneficial microbes in their farm soil and reduce residue, this product is intended to help farmers with crops that create heavy residue, like corn and wheat, reduce their overall residue come spring.
Every farm is unique, but PhycoTerra Soil Amendment is tested across multiple soil types, in multiple climates with notable results. To ensure your farm is a fit, we recommend filling out a form and speaking to an expert who can give you guidance for your unique circumstances.
Yes! PhycoTerra has a wide application window and can be used on both no-till and strip-till fields to further promote soil microbial activity and soil health.
PhycoTerra Organic is both OMRI listed and CDFA registered. It can be added to organic farming operations to activate soil microbes which, in turn, promote soil health and optimized yields.
